Naira appreciates further against U.S. dollar

‎The naira on Wednesday recorded a marginal appreciation against the United States dollar at the official foreign exchange market, data from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) have shown.

‎According to the CBN, the naira strengthened to N1,418.26 per dollar on Wednesday, compared with N1,419.07 exchanged on Tuesday, representing a gain of 80 kobo on a day-on-day basis.
‎The development extended the currency’s recent positive performance at the official window, following a N10.24 appreciation recorded on Tuesday.

‎Meanwhile, the naira remained stable at the parallel market, trading at N1,480 per dollar on Wednesday, the same rate as the previous day.

‎The CBN data also indicated that Nigeria’s external reserves increased to 45.62 billion dollars as of Jan. 6, 2026, reflecting improved foreign exchange inflows and continued efforts to stabilise the currency.

‎Market analysts say the sustained appreciation of the naira is being supported by improved liquidity at the official market and rising external reserves.
