Gbajabiamila Reveals How Desmond Elliot’s Political Crisis Nearly Cost Him His Job as Tinubu’s Chief of Staff

‎‎Femi Gbajabiamila has revealed that his political association with Desmond Elliot nearly put his position in jeopardy following the controversial impeachment saga involving Mudashiru Obasa.

‎Speaking during a meeting with supporters in a viral video circulating online, Gbajabiamila disclosed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu personally questioned him over Elliot’s alleged involvement in the removal of Obasa as Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly.

‎According to the Chief of Staff, the President directly confronted him over the issue.

‎“I hear this Desmond is your boy,” Gbajabiamila quoted President Tinubu as saying during their discussion.

‎Gbajabiamila responded by confirming his long-standing political relationship with Elliot, who currently represents Surulere Constituency in the Lagos State House of Assembly — the same constituency Gbajabiamila once represented during his time in the House of Representatives.

‎Tinubu Allegedly Displeased Over Obasa’s Removal

‎The political tension reportedly stemmed from the controversial impeachment of Mudashiru Obasa by members of the Lagos State House of Assembly earlier this year.

‎The development sparked widespread political debate across Lagos and within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), especially after reports emerged that Obasa was later reinstated allegedly following the intervention of President Tinubu.

‎Gbajabiamila explained that after learning of Elliot’s alleged role in the impeachment process, he immediately advised the lawmaker to publicly distance himself from the action.
‎However, according to him, Elliot failed to do so.

‎The Chief of Staff suggested that the failure to publicly dissociate from the impeachment almost created serious political consequences for him within the presidency.

‎Desmond Elliot Faces Tough Re-election Battle

‎Political observers believe the controversy may affect Desmond Elliot’s political future ahead of the next Lagos State Assembly election.

‎The Surulere lawmaker is reportedly facing growing opposition from party stakeholders and constituents, with speculations that he may no longer enjoy the full backing of influential political leaders within the APC structure in Lagos.

‎Despite remaining a popular public figure due to his entertainment background, Elliot’s recent political challenges have generated mixed reactions among supporters and critics alike.

‎Political Tensions Within Lagos APC Continue

‎The Obasa impeachment controversy has continued to expose internal divisions within the Lagos chapter of the APC, with several political camps allegedly battling for influence ahead of future elections.

‎Analysts believe the latest revelation by Gbajabiamila highlights the level of political sensitivity surrounding loyalty and power dynamics within the ruling party.

‎The development has also sparked conversations on social media, with many Nigerians reacting to the extent political alliances can impact appointments and government positions at the highest level.
