President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to eliminating terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, and other criminal activities across Nigeria, assuring citizens that the Federal Government will not surrender to forces threatening the country’s peace and stability.
The President made this declaration during the National Inter-Denominational Church Service held at the National Christian Centre in Abuja on Sunday as part of activities commemorating the 2026 Democracy Day celebration.
Represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, President Tinubu emphasized that national security remains a top priority for his administration. He noted that the government is strengthening security operations nationwide while working tirelessly to secure the release of citizens currently held captive by criminal groups.
According to the President, recent incidents of terrorist attacks, banditry, and kidnappings in various parts of the country highlight the need for sustained and coordinated action by security agencies.
”The Government of Nigeria shall never succumb to terror, banditry, or any form of criminal intimidation,” Akume stated while delivering the President’s message.
Tinubu stressed that protecting lives and property remains a fundamental responsibility of government and assured Nigerians that security agencies have been directed to intensify efforts aimed at restoring peace and stability in affected communities.
Federal Government Intensifies Security Measures
The President disclosed that ongoing security operations are being strengthened to tackle emerging threats and dismantle criminal networks operating across the country. He reiterated that the government remains determined to defeat terrorists, bandits, and other criminal elements undermining national development.
The administration, he said, is adopting a comprehensive approach that combines military action, intelligence gathering, community engagement, and strategic partnerships to address insecurity.
Security experts have consistently maintained that sustained operations and improved intelligence-sharing among security agencies are essential to combating terrorism and violent crimes in Nigeria.
Tinubu Addresses Economic Hardship and Citizens’ Concerns
Beyond security challenges, President Tinubu acknowledged the economic difficulties facing millions of Nigerians, including rising inflation, unemployment concerns, and the displacement of communities affected by insecurity.
He assured citizens that the Federal Government is implementing policies designed to ease economic hardship while ensuring that the benefits of democracy reach all Nigerians.
According to the President, his administration remains fully aware of public concerns regarding the rising cost of living and ongoing security challenges.
He pledged that government interventions would continue to focus on improving livelihoods, creating opportunities, and strengthening social support systems.
Democracy Day: A Call for Unity and National Resilience
As Nigeria marks Democracy Day 2026, Tinubu called on citizens to remain united, resilient, and supportive of efforts aimed at building a peaceful and prosperous nation.
He urged Nigerians to continue promoting national unity, religious tolerance, and cooperation with security agencies by providing useful information that could help prevent criminal activities.
The President emphasized that overcoming insecurity requires collective responsibility and active participation from all stakeholders, including traditional leaders, religious institutions, community groups, and civil society organizations.
Outlook for Nigeria’s Security and Development
President Tinubu’s renewed commitment comes at a time when Nigeria continues to confront security challenges in several regions. However, the administration maintains that ongoing military operations and security reforms are yielding results in the fight against terrorism, banditry, and kidnapping.
With intensified security efforts and economic recovery initiatives, the Federal Government says it remains focused on creating a safer environment that supports national growth, investment, and sustainable development.
As Nigerians commemorate Democracy Day, the administration has reiterated its promise to safeguard the nation, strengthen democratic institutions, and ensure that peace and security prevail across the country.
