The United States has delivered critical military supplies to Nigeria to strengthen ongoing security cooperation between both countries.
The delivery was confirmed by the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM), which oversees U.S. military operations across Africa.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, AFRICOM announced that U.S. forces handed over the supplies to Nigerian authorities in Abuja.
“U.S. forces delivered critical military supplies to our Nigerian partners in Abuja. This delivery supports Nigeria’s ongoing operations and emphasizes our shared security partnership,” AFRICOM stated.
The post, which tagged the U.S. Mission in Nigeria, did not disclose the nature or quantity of the equipment delivered.
The development comes amid sustained bilateral security collaboration between Nigeria and the United States, particularly in counterterrorism and regional stability efforts.
It would be recalled that on Christmas night, U.S. forces conducted airstrikes in Sokoto State, targeting Islamic State–linked militants allegedly operating alongside the Lakurawa jihadist group and local armed bandit networks.
The airstrikes followed diplomatic tensions between both countries over allegations of persecution and violence against Christians in Nigeria.
U.S. President Donald Trump had described the situation as “genocide,” a claim the Federal Government of Nigeria strongly rejected, insisting that the country’s security challenges are not religiously motivated.
