2026 Budget: Works Ministry Proposes Over N500m for Skills Training, Equipment Supply‎


‎The Federal Ministry of Works has proposed to spend over N500 million on skills training, empowerment programmes and the supply of equipment across selected constituencies in the country in the 2026 fiscal year.

‎Details of the proposed expenditure are contained in the 2026 Appropriation Bill uploaded on the website of the Budget Office of the Federation and accessed on Wednesday.

‎A breakdown of the document shows that the allocations cover training of hairdressers and make-up artists, supply of grinding machines, motorcycles, mini-vans, as well as sensitisation and advocacy programmes against drug abuse in different geopolitical zones.

‎Under a budget item with code ERGP 12234747, the ministry proposed N35 million for the supply of grinding machines to women in Ndokwa/Ukwani Federal Constituency in the South-South zone.

‎Similarly, N35 million was earmarked for the training and empowerment of women in hairdressing, make-up and soap making in Mikang/Shandam/Qua’an Pan Federal Constituency of Plateau State in the North-Central zone.

‎The document also shows a proposal of N70 million for the empowerment and training of youths, including seven retirees, on different skills and trade equipment in Inyamaltu/Deba area of Gombe State in the North-East.

‎In addition, the ministry plans to spend N70 million on the supply of mini pick-up vans, mini shuttle buses and motorcycles to constituents in Abakaliki Federal Constituency of Ebonyi State in the South-East.

‎Another item in the budget proposes funding for the training, sensitisation, advocacy and empowerment of North-Central youths against drug abuse in Zamfara State, which is geographically located in the North-West zone

‎The proposed projects are among several constituency-based interventions distributed across different locations nationwide in the 2026 budget estimates of the ministry.

‎Meanwhile, the Minister of Works, Sen. Dave Umahi, has assured that landmark properties affected by federal road projects would be preserved where possible, adding that no job would be lost as a result of ongoing or planned infrastructure works.

‎The 2026 Appropriation Bill is currently undergoing legislative scrutiny at the National Assembly.
