The Joint Union Action Congress (JUAC) of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has firmly rejected and dissociated itself from a press statement issued by the FCTA through the Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications, Mr. Lere Olayinka, which claimed that 10 out of the 14 demands presented by workers had been met.
In a statement signed by Comrade Abdullahi Umar Saleh, Secretary of JUAC–FCTA, the union described the claims as misleading, inaccurate and a deliberate attempt to misinform both workers and the general public.
JUAC stated unequivocally that no formal agreement has been reached with FCTA management on any of the demands submitted by the unions. It stressed that assertions regarding the payment of wage awards, rural allowance, 2023 promotion arrears and compliance with Public Service Rules are false, premature and unverifiable.
The union further clarified that it has neither suspended nor relaxed its industrial action, as none of the core demands has been conclusively implemented or confirmed. It added that the position reportedly credited to the Association of Resident Doctors (ARD–FCTA) does not reflect the collective stance of workers under JUAC and should not be used to project a false impression that the issues have been resolved.
JUAC listed several unresolved matters, including unpaid promotion arrears, non-remittance of NHF and pension deductions, illegal tenure elongation, a flawed promotion examination process, intimidation of staff, inadequate training opportunities and restrictions on the salary payment portal.
The union also condemned attempts by management to transfer responsibility for statutory deductions to workers, describing such actions as unacceptable and contrary to established public service financial regulations.
According to JUAC, the ongoing strike action remains lawful, justified and in full compliance with labour laws, having followed due process after the expiration of the seven-day ultimatum issued to management.
The congress urged members of staff, the public and the media to disregard the FCTA press release, insisting it does not reflect the true state of affairs. It called on workers to remain united and resolute until all demands are fully implemented, while advising FCTA management to abandon propaganda and engage sincerely with the unions to resolve outstanding issues.
JUAC reaffirmed its openness to genuine dialogue but vowed not to yield to misinformation, intimidation or divide-and-rule tactics.
