‎Aregbesola: Governors’ Defections Won’t Hand APC 2027 Victory

‎National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rauf Aregbesola, has cautioned the All Progressives Congress (APC) against assuming that the influx of governors into the party guarantees electoral success in 2027.

‎Speaking at the launch of a book authored by the ADC’s National Publicity Secretary, Aregbesola described the growing confidence within the APC as misplaced, arguing that recent electoral outcomes do not support such claims.

‎He pointed to the 2023 general elections, particularly the results from the South-West and South-East, as evidence that governors do not determine election victories.

‎According to him, the belief that the support of about 30 governors assures a party of winning elections is worrying and inconsistent with Nigeria’s democratic experience.

‎Aregbesola noted that despite the APC controlling most governorship seats in the South-West during the last election, the party secured only about 55 percent of the votes, underscoring that popular support—not political office holders—ultimately decides electoral outcomes.
