The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has resumed the nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise with the commencement of its second phase.
The commission announced that the exercise resumed on Monday, Jan. 6, 2026, following the conclusion of the first phase, which ended on 10th December, 2025.
INEC recalled that online pre-registration for the CVR was launched on Aug. 18, 2025, while physical registration at designated centres across the country began on 25th August, 2025.
According to the commission, a total of 9,891,801 Nigerians initiated online pre-registration during the first phase of the exercise.
Out of this number, 2,572,054 registrations were fully completed nationwide as of Nov. 28, 2025. The completed registrations comprised 1,503,832 processed through the online platform and 1,068,222 concluded via physical registration centres.
INEC explained that the interval between the first and second phases was utilised to carry out statutory obligations as required by law.
“In compliance with Section 19 of the Electoral Act 2022, the display of the register of voters for claims and objections was conducted from 15th December, 21st December, 2025, at local government area offices where the CVR exercise took place,” the commission stated.
However, INEC disclosed that the CVR exercise remains suspended in Anambra State and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) due to ongoing electoral activities in the two areas.
The commission added that fresh dates for the resumption of voter registration in Anambra State and the FCT would be announced in due course.
The resumption of the CVR, INEC noted, is expected to provide eligible Nigerians with another opportunity to register and participate in future elections.
