The crescent marking the beginning of Ramadan 1447AH has been SIghted in Saudia, signaling the commencement of the holy month of fasting for Muslims.
Following the sighting, Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2026, has been declared as the first day of Ramadan 1447AH.
Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, is observed by Muslims worldwide as a period of fasting, prayer, reflection and charity. During the month, faithful abstain from food, drink and other physical needs from dawn to sunset.
Religious leaders have urged Muslims to dedicate the holy month to increased devotion, acts of kindness and prayers for peace, unity and national development.
They also encouraged the faithful to support the less privileged and promote harmonious coexistence throughout the period.
Ramadan is expected to last 29 or 30 days, subject to the sighting of the next crescent.
Muslims across the country have begun preparations for the month-long spiritual exercise.
