Defence Minister Christopher Musa Assures Nigerians of Overcoming Security Threats

‎The Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (retd), has assured Nigerians that the country will overcome the myriad of security challenges confronting the nation.

‎Speaking at a thanksgiving interdenominational church service in Abuja to mark the 2026 Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day, Musa acknowledged threats from terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, and other criminal activities but emphasized the resilience and commitment of the armed forces and security agencies.

‎“Yes, we have threats of terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, and other criminal endeavours, but we have the armed forces, the police, and security agencies that are committed, resilient, and have sacrificed so much to take on these challenges, and we shall overcome,” he stated.

‎The minister also highlighted the importance of honouring the sacrifices of fallen service members. “We honour with deep reverence the brave men and women who have paid the supreme price in service to our beloved country. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten,” he said.

‎Musa further commended the ongoing dedication of serving personnel and their families, noting the government’s commitment to their welfare. “To the spouses especially, we commend you for holding the home front with strength and dignity. I assure you that your welfare and well-being remain a priority, and you will not be forgotten,” he added.

‎The minister praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for ensuring that the Armed Forces and security agencies are adequately equipped and properly motivated to discharge their constitutional duties effectively and professionally.

‎The service was attended by clergy, including Most Rev. Uche Dan Okafor, who urged members of the armed forces not to emulate military interventions in other West African countries, emphasizing the importance of upholding democracy in Nigeria.
