Tragedy in Kano as Mother, Six Children Killed in Home Attack


‎The Kano State Police Command has launched a comprehensive investigation into the horrific killing of a woman and her six children after a violent attack on their home in Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters.

‎In a statement issued on Saturday by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the incident occurred at about 12:10 p.m. when unidentified assailants forcefully entered the residence of Haruna Bashir and assaulted the occupants with lethal weapons.

‎The victims were identified as Fatima Abubakar, aged 35, and her six children. They sustained fatal injuries and were rushed to Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital, Kano, where doctors confirmed them dead on arrival.

‎Police Action and Ongoing Probe
‎Following the distress report, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, swiftly deployed officers to the scene. The team was led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, DCP Lawal Isah Mani, to secure the area and commence preliminary investigations.

‎CP Bakori has also instructed the Assistant Commissioner of Police heading the Criminal Investigation Department, ACP Wada Jarma, to take charge of an in-depth investigation aimed at uncovering the circumstances surrounding the attack and arresting those responsible.

‎The police command expressed its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, the Dorayi Chiranchi community, and the people of Kano State, assuring the public that all necessary measures are being taken to ensure justice is served.

‎The incident has thrown the Dorayi Chiranchi neighbourhood into deep mourning, with residents describing the killings as devastating and inexplicable.

‎Community members have urged security agencies to strengthen patrols and enhance intelligence efforts to forestall similar incidents.

‎Security experts note that the tragedy highlights persistent security concerns in some urban areas of northern Nigeria, where criminals sometimes take advantage of lapses in local surveillance.
