INEC releases revised timetable for 2027 general elections

‎The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has approved and issued a revised timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 General Election.

‎The commission said the adjustment followed the repeal of the Electoral Act, 2022 and the enactment of the Electoral Act, 2026, which introduced changes to statutory timelines governing pre-election and electoral activities.

‎INEC had earlier fixed Saturday, Feb. 20, 2027 for the Presidential and National Assembly elections, and Saturday, March 6, 2027 for the Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections.

‎However, in the revised schedule, the Presidential and National Assembly elections will now hold on Saturday, Jan. 16, 2027.

‎Similarly, the Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections have been rescheduled to Saturday, Feb. 6, 2027.

‎The commission stated that the review and realignment of the timetable were undertaken to ensure full compliance with the new legal framework.

‎The commission assured stakeholders of its commitment to conducting free, fair and credible elections in line with the law.
