January Salaries Roll Out as FG Pays Workers Amid FAAC Allocation Delay

‎Salary payments for January have begun in some federal ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs), despite the continued delay in the release of the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) communiqué for the month.

‎Checks on Friday showed that workers in selected MDAs, including the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) and the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST), have started receiving their January wages.

‎Affected employees confirmed that the payments included the approved annual salary increments, easing fears that the delay in FAAC revenue allocation details might disrupt federal wage disbursements.

‎This development comes against the backdrop of mounting public concern over the non-release of the January 2026 FAAC communiqué, more than a week after the committee’s meeting.

‎The FAAC communiqué typically provides details of revenue shared among the federal, state and local governments and serves as a critical fiscal guide for public sector spending.

‎Although analysts have cautioned that extended delays in FAAC allocations could affect salary payments—particularly at the sub-national level—the commencement of payments in some federal MDAs suggests that the Federal Government may be relying on alternative funding sources or previously secured resources.

‎Nevertheless, concerns persist over the potential impact of the FAAC delay on states and local governments, many of which depend heavily on monthly allocations to meet salary and operational commitments.

‎Financial experts have continued to urge relevant authorities to clarify the status of the January FAAC allocation in order to promote transparency and prevent fiscal uncertainty across the three tiers of government.

‎As of Friday, no official explanation had been issued regarding the delay in releasing the January FAAC allocation details.
