Nigeria’s national electricity grid has suffered another system failure, plunging several parts of the country into darkness on Tuesday morning.
Information from the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) indicates that by 11:00 a.m., total power generation had fallen to zero megawatts (MW), resulting in a nationwide blackout across all 11 electricity distribution companies (DisCos).
The latest incident is the second grid collapse recorded within five days. It would be recalled that the first collapse of the year occurred on Friday, January 24, 2026.
As at the time of filing this report, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) and the Ministry of Power were yet to release official statements explaining the cause of the outage or steps being taken to restore supply.
