NEDC Deepens Regional Impact with Major Projects Across Bauchi, Gombe and Adamawa States

‎‎The North-East Development Commission (NEDC) has intensified its infrastructure renewal drive with the commissioning and handover of key projects across Bauchi, Gombe and Adamawa States, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable development in the region.

‎‎Across the region, the NEDC has completed and commissioned multi-billion naira projects aimed at strengthening healthcare delivery, expanding educational infrastructure, and improving road connectivity. The projects were officially inaugurated by the Minister of State for Regional Development, Hon. Uba Ahmadu Maigari, alongside the NEDC Managing Director/CEO, Alhaji Mohammed Goni Alkali.

‎In Bauchi State, the Commission delivered several landmark interventions. At Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Gubi Campus, a newly constructed Fire Service Station along Airport Road was inaugurated to strengthen emergency response capacity.

‎‎The delegation also visited Government Secondary School (GSS) Bauchi as part of the Commission’s strategic partnership to promote quality education.

‎‎The state-wide tour further featured the commissioning and handover of projects within Bauchi metropolis, including the newly constructed NEDC State Office Complex in the capital and the Mega School Dungel located along Jos Road.

‎‎In the health sector, the Commission inaugurated a Medical Emergency Complex at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), Bauchi. The visit concluded with a symbolic stop at the tomb of Nigeria’s late Prime Minister, Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa.

‎‎Expanding Social Infrastructure in Gombe

‎In Gombe State, the Commission delivered about 15 critical projects designed to enhance social services and institutional capacity.


‎Education interventions include:
‎Construction of three Mega Schools in Dadin Kowa, Dukku, and Kaltungo.

‎Four modern 150-seat lecture theatres at Gombe State University.

‎A 250-bed student hostel at Government Technical College, Kumo.

‎Upgraded facilities at Ahmadu Gombe Secondary School.

‎Newly constructed senior staff quarters at Government Science Secondary School.

‎Healthcare interventions include:

‎A 40-bed Maternity Complex in Bogo (Akko LGA), with similar facilities in Billiri, Deba, and Balanga LGAs to reduce maternal and infant mortality.

‎Two central cold store blocks at the Gombe Central Medical Store to improve vaccine and essential medicine preservation.

‎‎Administrative development:

‎Commissioning of a new NEDC State Office Complex to decentralize operations and enhance service delivery.

‎‎Strategic Investments in Adamawa

‎‎In Adamawa State, the focus was on impactful infrastructure and specialized healthcare services.

‎‎Roads and connectivity:

‎‎Construction of the 1.5km General Paul Tarfa Road in Garkida, Gombi LGA.

‎A 1.1km internal road network at the Federal College of Education (FCE), Yola, linking staff quarters to academic areas.

‎‎Healthcare upgrades:

‎‎Installation of a state-of-the-art Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) facility at the Modibbo Adama University Teaching Hospital (MAUTH), Yola.

‎Commissioning of an ultra-modern Accident and Emergency (A&E) Complex to improve emergency and critical care services.

‎‎Youth and skills development:

‎‎Commissioning of a Mega School in Guyuk.

‎Rehabilitation of the Guyuk and Mayo Belwa Skills Acquisition Centres to strengthen vocational and entrepreneurial training.

‎‎These interventions align with the North-East Stabilization and Development Master Plan (NESDMP), which seeks to move the region beyond emergency recovery towards long-term, inclusive growth by rebuilding critical infrastructure and restoring essential services.

‎During the Gombe visit, the Commission also demonstrated corporate social responsibility by replacing professional equipment for journalists injured in a recent accident while covering NEDC activities in Bauchi.

‎‎The commissioning ceremonies were attended by the Chairman and members of the House of Representatives Committee on NEDC, the Chairman and Board Members of the Commission, Executive Directors (Operations, Administration, and Finance), as well as the Personal Assistant on Domestic and North-East Affairs in the Office of the Vice-President, among other dignitaries.
