NEDC Installs Solar-Powered Security Lights in Maiduguri, Environs

‎By Ibrahim Musa Mustapha
‎The North East Development Commission (NEDC) has intensified efforts to enhance public safety and infrastructure in Maiduguri and its environs with the installation of solar-powered security lights.

The lighting project covers major roads, residential areas and previously dark spots across the metropolis, significantly improving night-time visibility and security.

‎The initiative is part of the commission’s broader mandate to support recovery, stabilisation and sustainable development in communities affected by insurgency in the North East.

‎Speaking on the development, residents described the intervention as timely, noting that the improved lighting has enhanced night movement and helped deter criminal activities.

‎The project is being implemented under the leadership of the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the NEDC, Mr Mohammad Goni Alkali, and reflects the commission’s commitment to people-oriented projects with direct impact on daily life.

‎It was also gathered that the solar lighting scheme complements ongoing Federal Government efforts aimed at rebuilding critical infrastructure and restoring normalcy in post-conflict communities across the region.

‎Observers say the intervention has further strengthened public confidence in development institutions and demonstrated effective collaboration toward improving living conditions in Maiduguri.
