NEDC Restores Tafawa Balewa Mausoleum to Preserve National Heritage

‎‎The North East Development Commission (NEDC) has completed the rehabilitation of the tomb of Nigeria’s first Prime Minister, Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, located in Bauchi State, as part of efforts to preserve the nation’s historical and cultural heritage.

‎The Minister of State for Regional Development, Uba Maigari Ahmadu, on Thursday led members of the NEDC Board and Management, alongside the Commission’s management team headed by the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Mr Mohammad Goni Alkali, on an inspection tour of the rehabilitated facility.

‎Speaking during the visit, Ahmadu said the intervention covered critical components of the complex, including the museum, library, the tomb itself, the reception block, as well as newly improved public conveniences for both male and female visitors.

‎He explained that the project was designed not only to preserve the legacy of Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa but also to enhance the site’s functionality as a centre for learning, tourism and public engagement.

‎According to the minister, the upgraded facility is expected to boost historical awareness, attract visitors, and serve as an educational resource for future generations, while reinforcing the Federal Government’s commitment to safeguarding monuments of national importance.

‎The NEDC management, led by Alkali, reaffirmed the Commission’s resolve to continue supporting projects that promote regional development, cultural preservation and socio-economic growth across the North-East.
