Presidential spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, has clarified the reason President Bola Tinubu briefly lost his balance during an official engagement in Turkey, saying the incident occurred after the president stepped on a metal object.
Onanuga made the explanation on Tuesday in response to enquiries about the president’s condition in Ankara, Turkey’s capital.
The incident happened as President Tinubu walked alongside Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan shortly after inspecting a ceremonial parade organised in his honour.
A video of the moment circulating online showed the president momentarily going down after a cameraman moved a tripod stand close to his path.
However, Onanuga dismissed concerns, stressing that the episode was insignificant. According to him, the president merely stepped on a metal object on the floor, which caused a brief loss of balance.
“The president stepped on a metal on the floor, which made him lose his balance,” Onanuga said. “It is not a big deal, except for those trying to make mischief out of a fleeting incident. It was just a stumble, thank God, not a fall.”
