‎President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Dr Olugbemisola Odusote as the Director-General of the Nigerian Law School.

‎Odusote’s appointment takes effect from Jan. 10, 2026, for a four-year term, according to a statement issued on Tuesday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr Bayo Onanuga.

‎With the appointment, Odusote becomes the first woman to head the Nigerian Law School since its establishment in 1962.
‎She will succeed the incumbent Director-General, Prof. Isa Hayatu Chiroma, whose tenure expires on Jan. 9, 2026, after eight years in office.

‎Odusote, 54, is currently the Deputy Director-General and Head of the Lagos Campus of the Nigerian Law School.
‎She obtained her Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree from Obafemi Awolowo University and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1988.

‎She also holds a Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree from the same institution, specialising in company and commercial law, and later earned a PhD in Law from the University of Surrey, United Kingdom.
‎Her research interests include public law and the administration of justice.

‎Odusote joined the Nigerian Law School in 2001 as a lecturer and has since served in several capacities, including Head of the Academic Department, Director of Academics, and Head of Campus.
‎She was also a visiting scholar at Nottingham Trent University in the United Kingdom.

‎According to the statement, Odusote, as Director-General, will be responsible for the institution’s overall academic leadership, administrative management and strategic direction across all campuses.

‎She will also serve as the primary liaison between the Nigerian Law School, the Council of Legal Education, the Body of Benchers and the Nigerian Bar Association. (NAN)
