
President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Dr Olugbemisola Odusote as the Director-General of the Nigerian Law School.
Odusote’s appointment takes effect from Jan. 10, 2026, for a four-year term, according to a statement issued on Tuesday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr Bayo Onanuga.
With the appointment, Odusote becomes the first woman to head the Nigerian Law School since its establishment in 1962.
She will succeed the incumbent Director-General, Prof. Isa Hayatu Chiroma, whose tenure expires on Jan. 9, 2026, after eight years in office.
Odusote, 54, is currently the Deputy Director-General and Head of the Lagos Campus of the Nigerian Law School.
She obtained her Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree from Obafemi Awolowo University and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1988.
She also holds a Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree from the same institution, specialising in company and commercial law, and later earned a PhD in Law from the University of Surrey, United Kingdom.
Her research interests include public law and the administration of justice.
Odusote joined the Nigerian Law School in 2001 as a lecturer and has since served in several capacities, including Head of the Academic Department, Director of Academics, and Head of Campus.
She was also a visiting scholar at Nottingham Trent University in the United Kingdom.
According to the statement, Odusote, as Director-General, will be responsible for the institution’s overall academic leadership, administrative management and strategic direction across all campuses.
She will also serve as the primary liaison between the Nigerian Law School, the Council of Legal Education, the Body of Benchers and the Nigerian Bar Association. (NAN)
