U.S. Boosts Nigeria’s Security Efforts with Military Supplies

‎The United States has delivered critical military supplies to Nigeria to strengthen ongoing security cooperation between both countries.

‎The delivery was confirmed by the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM), which oversees U.S. military operations across Africa.

‎In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, AFRICOM announced that U.S. forces handed over the supplies to Nigerian authorities in Abuja.

‎“U.S. forces delivered critical military supplies to our Nigerian partners in Abuja. This delivery supports Nigeria’s ongoing operations and emphasizes our shared security partnership,” AFRICOM stated.

‎The post, which tagged the U.S. Mission in Nigeria, did not disclose the nature or quantity of the equipment delivered.

‎The development comes amid sustained bilateral security collaboration between Nigeria and the United States, particularly in counterterrorism and regional stability efforts.

‎It would be recalled that on Christmas night, U.S. forces conducted airstrikes in Sokoto State, targeting Islamic State–linked militants allegedly operating alongside the Lakurawa jihadist group and local armed bandit networks.

‎The airstrikes followed diplomatic tensions between both countries over allegations of persecution and violence against Christians in Nigeria.

‎U.S. President Donald Trump had described the situation as “genocide,” a claim the Federal Government of Nigeria strongly rejected, insisting that the country’s security challenges are not religiously motivated.
