Prof. Yilwatda has dismissed claims that governors or any individuals exercise control over the All Progressives Congress (APC), insisting that the party operates strictly within its established national structure.
Yilwatda stated that no section of the party can be taken over by any person or group, noting that all activities carried out at the state level are planned and coordinated at the national level.
“Across the country, nobody can take any section of the party. Whatever is done at the state level is planned at the national level. That is the APC structure and that is how we work,” he said.
According to him, the ruling party is guided by structure and due process rather than sentiments or personal interests.
“We work with structure. We don’t work with emotions. Nobody has control over the party, not even myself. No local government chairman, no governor, no senator or individual has control over the APC,” Yilwatda said.
He explained that the APC’s operational philosophy was the reason the party does not have a Board of Trustees.
“The APC is owned by the people. The people are the trustees of the party. Unlike other political parties where a few individuals control the structures, the APC belongs to the people,” he said.
Yilwatda added that as party chairman, there is no Board of Trustees supervising him, stressing that leadership in the party is guided by collective responsibility and adherence to its constitution.
