30% CONTTA Pay Rise Uncertain as FG–NASU Talks Continue

‎The Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) has clarified that it has not reached any agreement with the Federal Government on the reported 30 per cent increase in the Consolidated Salary Structure for non-academic staff in tertiary institutions.

‎This is contained in a circular issued by NASU’s General Secretary, Prince Peters A. Adeyemi, and made available to branch secretaries across universities and inter-university centres.

‎The union said its attention was drawn to a letter dated March 30, 2026, which conveyed a 30 per cent increase under the Consolidated Non-Teaching Tools Allowance (CONTTA) for non-academic staff in universities, polytechnics and colleges of education.

‎However, NASU stated unequivocally that it had yet to sign any agreement with the Federal Government’s Expanded Tertiary Institutions Renegotiation Committee led by Alhaji Mahmud Yayale Ahmed.

‎According to the union, the renegotiation of the 2009 agreement between the Federal Government and NASU is still ongoing, making the reported salary adjustment premature.

‎“We are surprised at the content of the letter purportedly signed by the Honourable Minister of Education,” the circular stated.

‎NASU urged its members nationwide to remain calm and await further directives from the union’s leadership as discussions with the government continue.

‎The development comes amid ongoing efforts to review the 2009 agreement governing the welfare and conditions of service of non-academic staff in Nigeria’s tertiary institutions.
