The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the North East Development Commission (NEDC), Alhaji Mohammad G. Alkali, on Saturday undertook an inspection tour of two strategic bridge projects in Borno aimed at accelerating infrastructure recovery in the North-East.
The projects visited are the nine-span, 180-metre Fori–Galtimari Bridge in Jere Local Government Area and the six-span, 120-metre Moromoro Bridge in Maiduguri Metropolitan Council.
Alkali was received at the various sites by the Project Coordinator, Engr. Kori Shettima, who provided an update on the scope of works and the progress recorded.
The visit was part of the commission’s routine monitoring to evaluate construction standards, track progress and ensure adherence to approved timelines and specifications.
Addressing stakeholders during the inspection, Alkali reaffirmed the commission’s resolve to rebuild critical infrastructure damaged by insurgency and recurrent flooding in the region.
He noted that upon completion, the bridges would improve connectivity, facilitate the movement of people and goods, and stimulate economic activities in the benefiting communities.
Alkali added that the projects were designed to address persistent challenges of infrastructure failure and flood-related disruptions that have hindered transportation and livelihoods in parts of the state.
He, however, charged contractors to sustain high quality standards and hasten the pace of work to guarantee timely completion.
The bridge constructions are part of NEDC’s ongoing efforts to promote sustainable reconstruction, rehabilitation and development across the North-East.
