Omokri Blames ADC Crisis on Internal Failings Amid INEC Deregistration‎

‎‎Nigeria’s Ambassador to Mexico, Reno Omokri, has criticised the African Democratic Congress (ADC) over its reported deregistration by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), describing the party as responsible for its own predicament.

‎Omokri, in a statement titled “INEC De-registration: ADC Professional Party Jumpers Have Only Themselves to Blame,” said the crisis within the party was self-inflicted and should not be blamed on external forces.

‎He specifically accused the faction led by David Mark of contributing to the situation through actions that undermined internal cohesion and legal compliance.

‎According to him, the group failed to properly interpret and respond to the March 12, 2026 ruling of the Court of Appeal, noting that their public statements did not clarify their understanding of the judgment.

‎“If they chose to appeal the decision, they should abide by the ruling of the court, as expected under the law,” he said.

‎Omokri further warned against attempts to incite public sentiment against INEC, describing such actions as “risky and desperate,” and capable of weakening confidence in the electoral process.

‎He added that the party’s current challenges were not unexpected, alleging that its recent political realignments were driven more by personal or business interests than democratic ideals.

‎Rather than blaming INEC or accusing the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of influencing the commission, Omokri urged the ADC leadership to take responsibility for what he described as a “faulty political arrangement.”

‎“They should either fix the problems within the party or consider moving to another platform,” he said.

‎Omokri also noted that with general elections less than a year away, forming a new political party may not be a viable option due to time constraints.
‎The ADC is yet to officially respond to the claims as of the time of filing this report.
