
The North-East Development Commission (NEDC) has commenced the distribution of relief materials to victims affected by recent attacks in Borno State, including those impacted by the Maiduguri multiple bomb blasts and insurgency incidents in Gwoza/Ngoshe, Monguno, and Kukawa.
The intervention follows a directive by Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen humanitarian response and support communities devastated by insecurity in the North-East.
Relief Items Distributed
Speaking during the distribution exercise in Maiduguri, the NEDC Borno State Coordinator, Engr. Mohammed Umar, represented the Commission’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mohammed G. Alkali.
He explained that the relief package includes both essential food items and non-food materials aimed at alleviating immediate hardship and supporting recovery.
Food items distributed include:
2,000 bags of 25kg rice
2,000 cartons of spaghetti/pasta
400 gallons of vegetable oil
100 bags of 50kg sugar
Non-food items provided:
1,000 mats
500 women’s wrappers
500 men’s brocade wears
500 children’s wears
2,000 blankets
Building Materials for Reconstruction
In addition to consumables, the Commission also supplied assorted building materials to support reconstruction efforts in affected communities. These include:
1,000 bundles of zinc roofing sheets
5,000 ceiling boards
10,000 pieces of timber
2,000 reinforcement rods
1,000 cartons of nails
Financial Assistance for Victims
The NEDC also announced direct financial support to victims and their families.
Households of deceased victims will receive ₦50,000 each, while hospitalized victims are to receive ₦30,000 each to assist with medical and related expenses.

The relief materials were distributed across several hard-hit local government areas:

300 bags of rice
300 cartons of spaghetti
250 cartons of vegetable oil
100 bags of sugar
500 mats and clothing items
Gwoza/Ngoshe
1,000 bags of rice
1,000 cartons of spaghetti
500 cartons of vegetable oil
2,000 mats and blankets, alongside clothing materials
Kukawa
500 bags of rice
500 cartons of spaghetti
200 cartons of vegetable oil
1,000 mats and 1,000 blankets, with additional clothing support
Government Commends Intervention
The items were formally received on behalf of the state government by Ali Abdullahi, Director General of the Borno State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA).
He commended the NEDC for its timely intervention, noting that the support would go a long way in alleviating the suffering of affected families and accelerating recovery efforts in the state.

The intervention underscores the Federal Government’s continued commitment to addressing humanitarian challenges in Nigeria’s North-East region, where communities have endured years of insurgency-related violence.
