Kwankwaso Supports Southern Presidency as NDC Zones 2027 Ticket to South

‎‎Rabiu Kwankwaso has endorsed the decision of the Nigeria Democratic Congress to zone its 2027 presidential ticket to Southern Nigeria, describing the move as a step toward fairness, unity, and national healing.

‎Speaking during the party’s national convention held on Saturday, the former Kano State governor said the zoning arrangement would allow the South to complete its turn in producing Nigeria’s national leadership in line with the principles of equity and federal character.

‎Kwankwaso stated that the decision reflects the party’s commitment to justice, inclusion, and balanced political representation across the country.

‎According to him, respecting rotational leadership remains vital to strengthening national unity and restoring confidence in Nigeria’s democratic process.

‎He pledged his loyalty to the party’s agreement and assured members that the NDC would continue to uphold fairness in all political and governance processes.

‎“It is therefore with a great sense of unity and solidarity that, as a loyal party member, I support the decision to zone the presidential ticket of the NDC to the South so that it allows the region to complete its turn in producing national leadership,” Kwankwaso said.

‎He further described the zoning decision as a “true opportunity for national healing,” stressing that the country needs leadership built on justice, mutual respect, and equal participation.

‎The former presidential candidate also emphasized the need for responsible leadership capable of restoring Nigeria’s image both locally and internationally.
‎According to him, the leadership standard to be set by the party would help restore the dignity of Nigerians and ensure that citizens at home and abroad are treated with respect.

‎Kwankwaso also used the opportunity to urge Nigerians to actively participate in the democratic process by registering with the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and joining the NDC.

‎He noted that increased voter participation and political engagement remain essential for achieving meaningful national transformation ahead of the 2027 general elections.

‎Political analysts believe the endorsement by Kwankwaso could strengthen ongoing conversations around power rotation and regional balance ahead of the next presidential election.

‎The debate over zoning and power sharing has remained a major issue in Nigeria’s political landscape, with many stakeholders insisting that rotational leadership promotes inclusiveness and national stability.
