Former Deputy Governor of Kano State, Nasir Yusuf Gawuna, has defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), following the recent move by Engr Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso to the same party.
Gawuna’s defection comes barely 24 hours after Kwankwaso, a former governor of Kano State and national political figure, formally joined the ADC, signalling a major political realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The former deputy governor had earlier resigned his membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC). He also stepped down from his position as Chairman of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria, a move widely seen as part of preparations for his new political direction.
Political observers note that Gawuna is being tipped as a preferred candidate of Kwankwaso in the lead-up to the 2027 polls, a development that could shape the emerging dynamics within the ADC and the broader political landscape.
The ADC is yet to issue an official statement on Gawuna’s defection as of the time of filing this report.
