The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced a two-week extension of the nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, giving eligible Nigerians additional time to register as voters ahead of future elections.
In a statement issued on Friday, the electoral body confirmed that the registration exercise, which was initially scheduled to end on July 10, 2026, will now continue until July 24, 2026.
INEC Extends Continuous Voter Registration Exercise
According to INEC, the decision to extend the Continuous Voter Registration exercise followed a comprehensive review of the ongoing process and consultations with state offices, political parties, civil society organisations, and other key stakeholders.
The Commission explained that the extension is intended to ensure that more eligible Nigerians who have not yet registered are given sufficient time to be captured in the National Register of Voters.

INEC Launches Online Self-Service Voter Registration
In a significant step toward digital transformation, INEC also announced the introduction of a fully online self-service voter registration platform for first-time voters.
The new digital registration system will become operational on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, through the Commission’s dedicated online portal.
With this innovation, eligible Nigerians will be able to complete their voter registration using their personal devices from any location without physically visiting an INEC registration centre.
The platform is designed with advanced identity verification, biometric validation, and backend security checks to protect the integrity of the National Register of Voters and prevent multiple registrations or identity fraud.
