The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the North East Development Commission (NEDC), Dr. Mohammed G. Alkali, has commended the Federal Government for the timely commencement of the rehabilitation of the Bama–Banki Road and Dikwa–Gamboru Ngala Road, describing the initiative as a major milestone in the ongoing efforts to restore peace, improve connectivity, and accelerate economic recovery across the North-East.
Dr. Alkali gave the commendation while attending the official flag-off ceremony performed by the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Kashim Shettima, on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in Borno State.
He described the road projects as critical infrastructure that will reconnect communities, facilitate the movement of people and goods, strengthen regional trade, and enhance access to essential services. According to him, the rehabilitation of the strategic corridors will significantly boost commercial activities within Borno State and across neighbouring countries, including Chad, Cameroon, and the Niger Republic.
The NEDC boss praised President Tinubu for prioritising infrastructure development as a catalyst for national growth and post-insurgency recovery, noting that the projects align with the Commission’s mandate of rebuilding the North-East through sustainable development and economic revitalisation.
Dr. Alkali also lauded Vice President Kashim Shettima for his unwavering commitment to the development of the region, as well as Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, for his continuous partnership with the Federal Government in driving infrastructure and reconstruction initiatives.
He further commended the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, and all stakeholders involved in the execution of the projects, expressing confidence that the roads will serve as vital economic corridors capable of stimulating investment, improving security operations, promoting agricultural productivity, and creating employment opportunities for the people of the North-East.
Dr. Alkali reaffirmed the North East Development Commission’s commitment to complementing the Federal Government’s efforts in delivering sustainable infrastructure and development programmes that will improve the quality of life of citizens and foster lasting peace and prosperity across the region.
He expressed optimism that the successful completion of the Bama–Banki and Dikwa–Gamboru Ngala road projects will open new opportunities for commerce, strengthen regional integration, and reinforce the Federal Government’s vision of building a more connected, secure, and prosperous North-East.
