
Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has formally resigned his membership of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
The governor made this known in a letter dated Jan. 23, 2026, and addressed to the Chairman of the NNPP in his ward in Kano State.
In the letter, Yusuf said his decision to withdraw from the party was taken after wide consultations with political associates, supporters and stakeholders across the state.
He expressed appreciation to the party leadership and members for their support during his political journey, particularly during the 2023 governorship election that brought him to office.
According to him, the decision was taken in the interest of the people of Kano State and aimed at enabling him to effectively pursue his administration’s developmental agenda.
Yusuf assured residents of the state that governance, service delivery and the welfare of the people would remain his top priority.
The NNPP is yet to officially react to the governor’s resignation as at the time of filing this report.
