Youth Groups Storm National Assembly Over Senate’s Rejection of Electronic Result Transmission

‎Nigerian youths have taken to the streets of Abuja in a protest tagged “Occupy the National Assembly,” expressing outrage over the Senate’s decision to reject the electronic transmission of election results.

‎The demonstration comes amid heightened security around the National Assembly complex, with officers deployed from the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigerian Army, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps to maintain order.

‎The protesters are reacting to the Senate’s stance on the Electoral Amendment Bill, particularly its reported refusal on Wednesday to amend Clause 60, sub-section 3, which would have made the electronic transmission of election results mandatory.

‎As of the time of filing this report, the demonstrators had commenced a march from the Federal Secretariat and were proceeding towards the main gate of the National Assembly.
