President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has pledged decisive action against insecurity, stressing that terrorism and banditry must be decisively tackled for Nigeria’s Renewed Hope agenda to deliver sustainable economic growth and national stability.
The President made this known while declaring open the Second National Economic Council (NEC) Conference at the State House Conference Centre, Abuja. The conference brought together state governors, senior federal officials and development partners to deliberate on the Renewed Hope National Development Plan 2026–2030.
Tinubu noted that the prevailing security challenges are alien to Nigeria’s core values, assuring citizens that his administration is strengthening the nation’s security framework to reclaim troubled communities and rebuild investor confidence.
He further emphasized that the success of the new development blueprint hinges largely on states and local governments, describing them as the engines of policy implementation. According to him, the next phase of national development will be driven from the grassroots, where policies must translate into employment opportunities, food security and inclusive economic growth.
The President described the Renewed Hope National Development Plan as a critical policy roadmap for Nigeria, adding that strong action plans at the sub-national level, backed by federal support, will accelerate overall national progress.
Speaking at the event, Vice President Kashim Shettima, who chairs the National Economic Council, underscored the importance of coordinated economic planning among federal and state governments, as well as development partners, to ensure fiscal stability and attract investment.
Shettima said the plan offers a comprehensive framework for repositioning Nigeria’s economy while ensuring that the dividends of development reach ordinary Nigerians.
The Second NEC Conference is expected to harmonise federal and state priorities, strengthen collaboration and produce practical strategies aimed at inclusive and sustainable development nationwide.
