Gov. Buni Commends NEDC’s Post-Insurgency Recovery Drive as Damaturu–Magza Road Nears Completion

‎The North East Development Commission (NEDC) continues to advance critical post-insurgency recovery infrastructure across the region, with Phase I (25km) of the 77km Damaturu–Magza Road project now reaching 90 percent completion. The strategic road will enhance connectivity among Yobe, Borno, and Adamawa States.

‎During an inspection of the Damaturu–Katarko section of the project, the Acting Secretary to the Yobe State Government, Dr. Mohammed Goje, lauded the NEDC under the leadership of Dr Mohammed G Alkali for the quality of work and its enduring partnership with the Yobe State Government. He noted that the road project is designed to restore connectivity, facilitate trade, and improve the movement of people and agricultural produce along a corridor significantly affected by insurgency.

‎Speaking during the inspection, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of NEDC, Dr. Mohammed Goni Alkali, represented by the Yobe State Coordinator, Prof. Ali Ibrahim Abbas, reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to the implementation of the North East Stabilization and Development Master Plan (NESDMP) through impactful projects and programmes aimed at rebuilding livelihoods and accelerating recovery across the region.

‎“NEDC remains committed to rebuilding the North-East through transformative projects that directly improve the welfare of citizens and support sustainable post-insurgency recovery,” Prof. Abbas stated. He further urged Greyland Construction Limited to maintain the highest standards of quality as work progresses on Phase II of the project, covering the Katarko–Magza section.

‎It will be recalled that the project was officially flagged off on 18 February 2026 by His Excellency, Governor Mai Mala Buni, alongside the NEDC MD/CEO, Dr. Mohammed Goni Alkali; Executive Director, Administration and Finance, Dr. Abubakar Garba Iliya; Executive Director, Operations, Engr. Abdulsalam Y. Ahmed; and other senior government officials.

‎Although the project was awarded with a 12-month completion timeline, the contractor, Greyland Investment Limited, assured stakeholders during the inspection that the road would be completed and delivered within six months, well ahead of schedule.

‎The inspection was attended by the Commissioner for Transport and Energy, the Chairman of the Rural Electrification Commission, officials and engineers from the Ministry of Works, NEDC staff, consultants, and other key stakeholders.
