The North East Development Commission (NEDC) has provided food and non-food relief materials to more than 150 patients undergoing treatment in Adamawa State, reaffirming its commitment to improving the welfare of vulnerable communities across the North-East.
The distribution took place at the Specialist Hospital, Yola, and forms part of the Commission’s ongoing humanitarian interventions aimed at cushioning the effects of economic hardship and supporting those in need.
Speaking during the distribution exercise, the Adamawa State Coordinator of the North East Development Commission (NEDC), Barrister Khalifa M. Lawan, who represented the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Commission, Dr. Mohammed G. Alkali, stated that the intervention underscores the Commission’s unwavering commitment to improving the welfare and quality of life of people across the North-East, particularly the vulnerable and less privileged. He explained that the initiative was designed to provide essential support and comfort to patients undergoing treatment and their families, helping to alleviate some of the burdens associated with illness and recovery.
Also speaking at the event, Dr. Batulu Isa of the Directorate of Humanitarian Affairs emphasized that improving the living conditions of vulnerable persons remains one of the Commission’s core responsibilities. She noted that proper nutrition is essential for recovery and healing, adding that the distributed food items would contribute significantly to the patients’ health and overall well-being.
Dr. Isa further explained that the choice of Specialist Hospital, Yola, was intended not only to support patients but also to encourage other organizations, institutions, and individuals to extend similar assistance to vulnerable groups, especially the sick and less privileged.
Representing the hospital management, Nurse Agnes Habila Jatau expressed gratitude to the NEDC for the thoughtful intervention, describing it as a commendable act of compassion and humanitarian service. She urged other organizations to emulate the Commission’s example by supporting those facing difficult circumstances.
Beneficiaries of the intervention, including Hassan Isa, Amina Muhammed, and Ibrahim John, thanked the Commission for the timely assistance, noting that the support would help ease their burdens and improve their welfare while receiving medical care.
The distribution exercise was carried out in collaboration with the Debie Kauna Foundation, which partnered with the NEDC to ensure the successful delivery of the relief materials to the beneficiaries.
