Troops Recover Food Supplies During Successful Counter-Insurgency Mission in Konduga
The Nigerian Army has recorded another operational success in its ongoing counter-terrorism campaign in the North-East, following the neutralisation of a suspected fighter linked to the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) during a carefully coordinated ambush operation in Borno State.
The operation, which took place in Konduga Local Government Area, highlights the military’s continued efforts to dismantle terrorist networks, disrupt supply chains, and restrict the movement of insurgents across vulnerable communities in the region.
Night Operation Targets Suspected Terrorist Crossing Point
According to security reports, troops of the 222 Battalion (Mechanised) carried out the operation in the early hours of June 15, 2026. The soldiers reportedly laid an ambush at Yaleri Kurma Village, an area believed to be used by insurgents as a movement corridor.
The operation commenced at approximately 12:15 a.m., when troops encountered suspected terrorists attempting to move through the area under the cover of darkness.
Military personnel engaged the suspects, resulting in the elimination of one individual believed to be affiliated with ISWAP. The remaining suspects reportedly fled the scene as troops maintained control of the area.
Food Supplies Recovered During Operation
Following the encounter, troops conducted a search of the area and recovered several items suspected to be intended for insurgent logistics operations.
Items recovered included:
Two bags of flour
Twelve packs of 500-gram salt
Ten packs of spaghetti
Security sources indicated that the food items were likely being transported to support terrorist elements operating within remote locations of Borno State.
The recovered materials have been taken into military custody for further examination and intelligence analysis.
