The All Progressives Congress (APC) has successfully uploaded the names and nomination details of about 471 candidates who emerged from its recently concluded primary elections to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) nomination portal.
The uploaded nominees are seeking various elective offices, including the Presidency, Senate, and House of Representatives.
Confirming the development, APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, congratulated the party’s candidates on the successful completion of the nomination upload process.
However, submission of candidates’ details to the INEC portal does not constitute final approval by the electoral commission. INEC is expected to carefully scrutinise and verify every nomination before releasing the official list of duly nominated candidates for the 2027 general elections.
The commission had earlier stated that only candidates who emerged from validly conducted and monitored primary elections, and whose nominations comply with the Electoral Act, relevant regulations, and its guidelines, would be cleared. Consequently, the submitted nominations will be cross-checked against INEC’s records of the primaries to ensure full compliance.
Meanwhile, the deadline for political parties to submit candidates’ details, initially scheduled to expire on Saturday, July 11, 2026, has reportedly been extended to Tuesday, July 14, 2026, to enable parties that experienced technical challenges to complete the process.
Until INEC concludes its verification exercise, the uploaded nominations remain provisional. Only candidates who meet all constitutional, legal, and procedural requirements will be included in the commission’s final list of duly nominated candidates.
With the primary elections concluded, party members, aspirants, and political observers across the country are now awaiting INEC’s final determination as preparations for the 2027 general elections enter another critical phase.
For the APC and its 471 candidates, the successful upload marks an important milestone, but the ultimate confirmation of their candidacies now rests with INEC.
