The North East Development Commission (NEDC), under the leadership of its Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Alhaji Mohammad Goni Alkali, has continued to demonstrate strong commitment toward improving the livelihoods of vulnerable communities across the North-East region. Through strategic humanitarian interventions, the Commission provides relief and support to communities affected by insecurity, displacement, and economic hardship.
As part of this year’s Ramadan humanitarian outreach, Alhaji Mohammad Goni Alkali led the distribution of relief materials to residents of recently attacked communities in Gwoza, Konduga, and Kukawa Local Government Areas of Borno State. The intervention was aimed at providing immediate support to affected families and easing their hardship during the holy month of Ramadan, a period that emphasizes compassion, charity, and communal support.
The relief items distributed included both food and non-food materials to support the daily needs of the affected populations. Among the items provided were essential food supplies such as rice, maize, cooking oil, and other household consumables, as well as non-food items meant to assist displaced families in meeting basic living needs.
This humanitarian gesture is a long-standing tradition of the MD/CEO of NEDC, who has consistently ensured that relief support reaches vulnerable communities every Ramadan. The annual intervention reflects the Commission’s commitment to strengthening community resilience and improving livelihoods, particularly for those affected by insurgency and other humanitarian challenges in the region.
Community leaders, beneficiaries, and local stakeholders praised Alhaji Mohammad Goni Alkali for the timely intervention, noting that the support came at a critical moment when many families were struggling to cope with the aftermath of recent attacks. They commended the NEDC leadership for its compassion and dedication to the welfare of the people.
Prayers were also offered for the MD/CEO, asking Almighty Allah to continue to grant him wisdom, strength, and good health to sustain his humanitarian efforts, and to reward his kindness toward the people of the North-East.
