Defence Ministry Holds Emergency Meeting with Service Chiefs Over Escalating Terror Attacks

‎The Minister of Defence, Gen. Christopher Musa (Rtd), has convened an urgent meeting with all the Service Chiefs to address the recent surge in attacks on military bases across the North-East.

‎The meeting, which is currently taking place at the Ministry of Defence Headquarters in Abuja, is attended by top military leaders including the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, and the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu.

‎Also present are the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abass, as well as representatives from the National Intelligence Agency and other security officials.

‎According to reports by Daily Trust, at least three Commanding Officers holding the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel were recently killed by terrorists in Borno State.

‎In addition to the fallen officers, several soldiers also lost their lives, while hundreds of civilians abducted during the attacks remain in captivity.

‎Speaking briefly before the meeting went into a closed-door session, the Defence Minister stated that the security leadership had agreed to reassess and strengthen their strategies to confront the terrorists.

‎“We acknowledge that we have suffered some casualties, but the losses on the side of the terrorists are even greater,” the retired four-star General noted.
