Troops of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) have successfully repelled a coordinated attack by fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) on a military base in Borno State, killing several insurgents while sustaining the loss of one soldier during the fierce gun battle.
The attack targeted the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Logomani in Ngala Local Government Area, one of the strategic military positions safeguarding communities along Nigeria’s North-East border.
According to the Media Information Officer of Operation Hadin Kai, Captain Mohammed Goni, the terrorists launched a determined assault in an attempt to overrun the military installation. Although the attackers briefly breached part of the defensive perimeter, troops quickly reorganised and mounted a decisive counter-offensive that forced the insurgents to retreat with significant casualties.
”Regrettably, one gallant soldier paid the supreme price, while two gun trucks and some combat enablers sustained damage during the engagement,” Captain Goni said.
He added that reinforcements had been deployed immediately after the attack to strengthen the base and ensure the area remains secure.
”Reinforcements have been deployed, and the situation remains firmly under control,” he stated.
Military Intensifies Counter-Terrorism Operations
The successful defence of the Logomani base underscores the Nigerian military’s sustained efforts to prevent terrorist groups from regaining operational footholds in Borno State and other parts of the North-East.
Operation Hadin Kai has continued to conduct offensive operations aimed at dismantling terrorist enclaves, disrupting logistics networks, rescuing kidnapped civilians, and encouraging insurgents to surrender voluntarily.
Security analysts note that attacks on forward operating bases are often intended to seize weapons and weaken military presence. However, the swift response by troops at Logomani prevented the insurgents from achieving their objective.
Troops Rescue Kidnap Victims in Askira-Uba
In a separate operation, troops of the 115 Task Force Battalion successfully rescued two kidnap victims during a search-and-rescue mission in Askira-Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.
The victims were immediately evacuated to a secure facility, where they are receiving medical treatment and psychosocial support.
During the operation, soldiers recovered ₦1.2 million, suspected to be proceeds of criminal activities, along with food supplies and logistics materials believed to have been used in supporting terrorist operations.
Military authorities said the recovery represents another setback to criminal networks operating in the region.
Six Suspected ISWAP Members Surrender
In another development, six suspected ISWAP members, accompanied by their family members, voluntarily surrendered to troops of the 192 Battalion, Sector 1, Operation Hadin Kai.
According to the military, the group fled terrorist hideouts located in Guduf Bubayagwa and Chikide within the Mandara Mountains in Gwoza Local Government Area.
Items recovered from the surrendered individuals included ₦1.54 million in cash, two mobile phones
Military officials said the increasing number of voluntary surrenders continues to demonstrate the sustained pressure being mounted against terrorist groups across the North-East.
Security Forces Arrest Terror Logistics Suppliers
Operation Hadin Kai also confirmed the arrest of several suspected criminal elements and logistics suppliers during coordinated operations across parts of Borno and Adamawa states.
Recovered items included weapons, ammunition, vehicles, cash, and other materials allegedly linked to terrorist activities.
The military said disrupting supply chains remains a critical component of ongoing counter-insurgency operations, as it weakens the operational capability of terrorist organisations.
Police Rescue Abducted INEC Staff in Zamfara
Meanwhile, security operations in Zamfara State recorded another breakthrough as police operatives rescued an abducted staff member of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The operation, conducted across Gummi, Talata Mafara, and Gusau Local Government Areas, also led to the recovery of hundreds of rustled cattle from armed bandits.
The Zamfara State Commissioner of Police, A.M. Bello, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to sustained offensives against criminal gangs and urged residents to continue providing credible intelligence to security agencies.
Military Reaffirms Commitment to Restoring Peace
The Nigerian military stated that ongoing operations across the North-East remain focused on dismantling terrorist networks, cutting off logistics routes, protecting civilians, and restoring lasting peace in conflict-affected communities.
Security forces have continued to combine offensive operations, intelligence gathering, rescue missions, and community engagement to reduce the operational capacity of insurgent groups.
While isolated attacks remain a challenge, military authorities maintain that sustained pressure on terrorist elements is yielding positive results through successful operations, increased recoveries, arrests, and voluntary surrenders.
