As political activities gradually gather momentum ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dele Momodu, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to focus on presenting the achievements of his administration rather than relying on political propaganda.
Momodu made the remarks during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Monday, where he argued that Nigerian voters are more interested in measurable improvements in governance, economic stability, security, infrastructure, and the overall quality of life than in political campaigns centred on attacking opponents.
According to him, President Tinubu’s chances of securing another term in office would largely depend on the administration’s ability to demonstrate concrete achievements that have positively impacted Nigerians.
”The 2027 election will not be difficult for Tinubu if he can show the records of his performance. Nobody hates him personally. It is about performance.
Present your scorecards,” Momodu said.
Performance Will Shape 2027 Election
The veteran journalist and publisher stressed that democratic elections are ultimately decided by the electorate’s assessment of government performance rather than campaign slogans.
He maintained that every administration should be prepared to account for its stewardship by presenting verifiable evidence of completed projects, economic reforms, improved public services, and policies that have delivered tangible benefits to citizens.
According to him, Nigerians will judge the administration based on whether living conditions have improved during its tenure.
Call for Issue-Based Campaigns
Momodu also advised members of the ruling All Progressives Congress and (APC) to shift attention from political attacks to communicating government achievements.
He argued that political campaigns should be centred on governance outcomes rather than criticisms directed at opposition parties or individuals.
Analysts have consistently noted that issue-based campaigns encourage informed political participation and allow voters to compare competing policy ideas ahead of elections.
Criticism of Blame Politics
The ADC chieftain criticised what he described as the APC’s continued tendency to attribute Nigeria’s economic and governance challenges to previous administrations.
According to him, every government should accept responsibility for addressing the challenges it inherited instead of repeatedly blaming its predecessors.
He questioned what significant progress had been made after more than three years of the current administration, asking whether ordinary Nigerians had experienced meaningful improvements in their daily lives.
Comments on Obasanjo and Atiku
Momodu also reacted to recent comments by former President Olusegun Obasanjo, who reportedly described selecting Atiku Abubakar as his running mate as his greatest political mistake.
Responding to the development, Momodu alleged that Obasanjo has consistently opposed Atiku’s ambition of becoming Nigeria’s president.
He suggested that the former president’s position on Atiku has remained unchanged over the years, despite their previous political alliance.

Although the 2027 presidential election is still some time away, political discussions among parties and stakeholders have continued to intensify.
