The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the North East Development Commission (NEDC), Dr. Mohammed G. Alkali, has once again demonstrated his unwavering commitment to humanitarian service and community development by distributing food items, non-food relief materials, and livelihood support packages to thousands of vulnerable households in Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State.
The intervention, which forms part of Dr. Alkali’s sustained efforts to improve the living conditions of vulnerable communities across the North-East, featured the distribution of thousands of bags of rice, cartons of spaghetti, gallons of cooking oil, wrappers, blankets and mats to widows, internally displaced persons, less privileged families, and other vulnerable residents.
In addition to the relief materials, Dr. Alkali empowered women and youths with sewing machines to promote entrepreneurship, encourage self-reliance, and create sustainable sources of income. Farmers also benefited from the intervention through the distribution of water pumps aimed at enhancing irrigation farming, increasing agricultural productivity, and ensuring bumper harvests during the farming season.
Speaking during the exercise, representatives of Dr. Alkali described the initiative as part of his enduring vision to complement government efforts in poverty reduction, food security, economic empowerment, and post-conflict recovery across Borno State and the North-East region.
The distribution, which was officially flagged off as the first batch, is expected to continue in other wards of Kukawa Local Government Area and subsequently extend to other local government areas within Borno North Senatorial District and across Borno State, ensuring that more vulnerable households benefit from the humanitarian intervention.
The distribution exercise was supervised by the Executive Chairman of Kukawa Local Government Area, Hon. Mustapha Kukawa, alongside the Special Adviser to the Borno State Governor, Alhaji Tijjani Lawan Dogoshi, who led other government officials and community leaders in ensuring the successful and transparent distribution of the items to beneficiaries.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, community leaders, women groups, youth representatives, and traditional stakeholders expressed profound appreciation to Dr. Mohammed G. Alkali for his consistent generosity, compassion, empathy, and unwavering concern for the welfare of vulnerable citizens. They noted that his interventions have continued to bring hope, restore dignity, and improve the livelihoods of countless families affected by years of insecurity and economic hardship.
They described Dr. Alkali as a visionary leader, humanitarian, and compassionate public servant whose commitment to humanity extends beyond official responsibilities, adding that his numerous interventions have continued to positively impact communities across the North-East.
The beneficiaries offered special prayers for Dr. Mohammed G. Alkali, praying Almighty Allah to bless him with sound health, abundant wisdom, long life, greater strength, and continued success in his service to humanity. They also prayed that Allah rewards his kindness abundantly and grants him the opportunity to continue touching more lives across Borno State and the entire North-East region.
