A number of passengers sustained injuries on Monday after a train travelling from Abuja to Kaduna derailed following a collision.
The Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation, Kayode Opeifa, confirmed the incident to DAILY POST, stating that the train experienced a disruption near Asham.
He explained that although several passengers were injured, no fatalities had been reported as of the time the report was filed. The injured passengers were subsequently transported back to the Idu train station in Abuja, where they received necessary medical attention.
According to him, the railway authorities have commenced an investigation to determine the exact cause of the incident.
“It is confirmed that our Abuja–Kaduna train had an incident at Asham. Some passengers were injured, and investigations are currently underway to ascertain the precise cause,” he said.
