President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday received briefings from the Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr Ola Olukoyede, and the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Mr Muttaqha Rabe Darma, on the management and disposal of houses seized by the anti-graft agency across the country.
The meeting was held at the State House, Abuja, with discussions centred on ensuring that recovered properties were properly managed and disposed of in accordance with the principles of transparency and accountability.
The State House media office disclosed this in a statement and photo release issued late Tuesday.
“Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Olanipekun Ola Olukoyede, and Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Muttaqha Rabe Darma, met with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on the management and disposal of seized houses nationwide, under the rules of transparency and accountability at the State House, Abuja.
“Tuesday, August 18, 2026,” the statement said.
The meeting comes amid renewed attention to the handling of assets recovered by the EFCC and the need to ensure that proceeds and properties recovered from financial crimes are managed in a manner that serves the public interest.
The Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development has previously collaborated with the EFCC in taking over recovered housing assets for assessment, completion and eventual transparent disposal.
In May 2025, the ministry took delivery of a 753-unit housing estate in Abuja recovered by the EFCC. The ministry said the estate would undergo technical assessment and that the completed units would be offered to the public and reserved for special government needs through a transparent process.
The Tuesday meeting also marks the first publicly reported engagement between President Tinubu and Olukoyede since the President publicly overruled the EFCC earlier in August over the commission’s handling of a court order freezing the accounts of the Osun State Government, days before the state’s governorship election.
The latest engagement underscores the administration’s stated emphasis on transparency, accountability and the productive utilisation of recovered assets.
