…Facility among Nigeria’s finest CBT centres – JAMB Registrar
Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has commissioned and officially handed over a multi-million naira office complex and a modern Computer-Based Test (CBT) centre to the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) in Maiduguri.
The state-of-the-art facility, constructed by the Borno State Government along the Maiduguri–Dikwa Road, will serve as JAMB’s North-East Zonal Office, catering to the six states of the region. It comprises a modern administrative block and two CBT halls with the capacity to accommodate 500 candidates simultaneously.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, Governor Zulum reiterated his administration’s unwavering commitment to strengthening the education sector, describing the project as Borno State’s contribution to improving educational service delivery across the North-East.
He said the facility would provide a conducive environment for candidates writing entrance examinations into tertiary institutions while enhancing JAMB’s operational efficiency in the region.
Receiving the facility on behalf of the Board, JAMB Registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, praised Governor Zulum for what he described as a historic and unprecedented intervention.
According to Oloyede, it is the first time in Nigeria’s history that a state governor has independently financed and delivered a JAMB zonal office alongside a fully equipped CBT centre.
He explained that the centre has the capacity to accommodate 500 candidates at a sitting and process over 2,000 candidates daily, while its integrated registration units would significantly speed up registration and documentation for applicants from Borno State.
“Today, reality has surpassed my expectations. In just four months, what seemed humanly impossible has been accomplished. This facility stands as a testament to your visionary leadership, your commitment to educational advancement, and your unwavering dedication to the people of Borno State and the Northeast region.
“The CBT centre you have graciously provided will serve as a beacon of excellence for computer-based testing and administrative services. It will bring immense relief to candidates, educational institutions, and stakeholders across this region.
“More importantly, it reflects Your Excellency’s enduring commitment to rebuilding confidence in education and expanding opportunities for young people despite the enormous challenges confronting the region,” Oloyede said.
The outgoing JAMB Registrar further commended Governor Zulum’s sustained investment in education, youth development and human capital, describing him as a leader whose courage, compassion, accessibility and dedication to public service have earned him national respect.
In recognition of Oloyede’s outstanding service to educational development in Nigeria, Governor Zulum directed the Borno State Ministry of Education to name the newly commissioned facility after the outgoing JAMB Registrar.
The ceremony was attended by the Secretary to the Borno State Government, Bukar Tijani; the incoming JAMB Registrar, Professor Segun Aina; the Acting Chief of Staff to the Governor, Dr. Babagana Mustapha Malumbe; the Commissioner for Education, Engr. Lawan Abba Wakilbe; and other top government officials.
