2027 Presidency: Jonathan Signals Possible Comeback, Says He Will Consult Widely Before Decision

‎Former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan has hinted at a possible return to active politics ahead of the 2027 presidential election, saying he would consult widely before taking any decision on contesting.

‎Jonathan made the statement on Thursday in Abuja while addressing a group of supporters who marched to his office urging him to join the 2027 presidential race.

‎The former president, who served as Nigeria’s leader from 2010 to 2015, stressed the importance of patriotism, peace, and credible elections in sustaining democracy and national development.
‎According to Jonathan, patriotic citizens are essential for nation-building, warning that selfish leadership and lack of commitment to national interest could hinder Nigeria’s progress.

‎“It’s only patriotic citizens that build their nations. Unpatriotic citizens will destroy their nation and take the money elsewhere to enjoy their lives,” Jonathan said.

‎Speaking further, the former president urged Nigerian youths to remain committed to peaceful and credible elections, describing electoral integrity as the foundation of good governance.

‎Jonathan noted that many competent citizens avoid politics because of violence and irregularities associated with elections in the country.

‎“The key thing we need in this country is peace. You must continue to advocate for peaceful and credible elections in Nigeria,” he stated.

‎He also encouraged young Nigerians to participate actively in the electoral process, especially by exercising their voting rights during elections.

‎The former president revealed that he had observed elections in more than 14 African countries, gaining valuable democratic experience across the continent.
