The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has approved and issued a revised timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 General Election.
The commission said the adjustment followed the repeal of the Electoral Act, 2022 and the enactment of the Electoral Act, 2026, which introduced changes to statutory timelines governing pre-election and electoral activities.
INEC had earlier fixed Saturday, Feb. 20, 2027 for the Presidential and National Assembly elections, and Saturday, March 6, 2027 for the Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections.
However, in the revised schedule, the Presidential and National Assembly elections will now hold on Saturday, Jan. 16, 2027.
Similarly, the Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections have been rescheduled to Saturday, Feb. 6, 2027.
The commission stated that the review and realignment of the timetable were undertaken to ensure full compliance with the new legal framework.
The commission assured stakeholders of its commitment to conducting free, fair and credible elections in line with the law.
