BRIDGING COMMUNITIES, BUILDING PROSPERITY: NEDC DELIVERS 9-SPAN FORI–GALTIMARI BRIDGE

‎‎The North-East Development Commission (NEDC), under the purposeful leadership of its Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Mohammed Goni Alkali, has continued to demonstrate its commitment to rebuilding communities, strengthening infrastructure and transforming adversity into sustainable development with the delivery of the new 9-span Fori–Galtimari Bridge in Maiduguri, Borno State.
‎
‎The bridge represents another significant milestone in the Commission’s ongoing efforts to address critical infrastructure challenges arising from years of insurgency, environmental pressures and other developmental setbacks that have affected communities across the North-East. Notably, the original Fori–Galtimari Bridge was destroyed by the devastating 2024 flood that ravaged Maiduguri, disrupting connectivity and creating additional difficulties for residents and commuters. Its reconstruction and delivery as a new 9-span bridge therefore represent an important intervention in restoring vital access, strengthening community resilience and rebuilding critical infrastructure affected by the disaster.
‎
‎For residents of Fori, Galtimari and neighbouring communities, the bridge is more than a physical structure. It represents improved connectivity, easier movement of people and goods, enhanced access to economic opportunities and renewed confidence in the possibilities of development.
‎
‎Beyond its engineering significance, the project reflects the importance of infrastructure that responds directly to the everyday needs of ordinary citizens. By improving access and strengthening connections between communities, the bridge is expected to contribute to commercial activities, social interaction and the overall socioeconomic development of the area.
‎
‎Under Dr. Alkali’s leadership, the NEDC has continued to pursue an infrastructure-driven development agenda aimed at moving the North-East beyond emergency recovery and reconstruction towards long-term stability, resilience and prosperity.
‎
‎The delivery of the Fori–Galtimari Bridge further reinforces the Commission’s commitment to purposeful interventions that address pressing community needs while laying the foundation for sustainable regional development.
‎
‎This achievement also underscores a leadership philosophy built around listening to communities, identifying their challenges and translating development priorities into tangible projects that improve lives.
‎
‎For Borno State, where resilient infrastructure remains essential to rebuilding communities and restoring economic activities, the new bridge is a welcome development and a testament to the value of sustained investment in public infrastructure.
‎
‎Huge appreciation to Dr. Mohammed Goni Alkali and the management of NEDC for this remarkable intervention. Leadership that listens, understands the people’s needs and acts to deliver meaningful results deserves recognition.
‎
‎Indeed, the Fori–Galtimari Bridge is another important step in transforming adversity into resilience and building a stronger, more connected and prosperous North-East.
