Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, on Sunday, 13th September 2026 hosted his Nasarawa State counterpart, Engr. Abdullahi Sule, as Special Guest of Honour to commission four major development projects in Maiduguri, marking another milestone in the state’s ongoing infrastructure and education recovery.
The commissioned projects include the Post Office 9-Span Flyover, the dualised 2.5-kilometre Budum Tandari Junction–Kasuwan Shanu road with 5 kilometres of drainage, the Larawaram Community Senior Secondary School, and the Shehu Sanda Kyarimi I Primary and Junior Secondary School.
At the infrastructure projects, the Commissioner for Works and Housing, Engr. Adam Bukar Babbabe, received Governor Sule and the delegation, introduced the projects and conducted them round the facilities.
Engr. Babbabe explained that the Post Office Flyover and associated road infrastructure form part of Governor Zulum’s long-term development vision under the Borno 25-Year Development Plan and 10-Year Strategic Development Plan, designed to accelerate development and modernise the state’s infrastructure.
The Post Office Flyover, the fourth constructed by the Zulum administration, is expected to ease traffic congestion, improve connectivity and facilitate the movement of people and goods within Maiduguri, while the road and drainage project will further enhance mobility and strengthen the city’s drainage system.
The delegation later proceeded to the education projects, where the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Engr. Lawan Abba Wakilbe, received the Special Guest of Honour and led him round the newly completed schools.
Engr. Wakilbe said the schools are part of the administration’s wider education recovery and human capital development programme, aimed at rebuilding educational infrastructure, expanding access to schools and supporting efforts to reduce the number of out-of-school children in Borno.
Speaking at the ceremony, Governor Abdullahi Sule commended Governor Zulum for his commitment to development despite the challenges posed by insecurity, describing the projects as evidence of purposeful leadership and determination to invest in the people.
Governor Zulum said the projects were designed not only to improve the appearance of Maiduguri but, more importantly, to facilitate economic activities, ease movement and provide better public services for residents.
He also highlighted his administration’s investment in education, noting that more than 120 mega schools have been constructed across Borno as part of efforts to provide children with access to quality education.
The latest projects further demonstrate the Zulum administration’s approach to rebuilding Borno through simultaneous investment in infrastructure and human capital, laying stronger foundations for economic recovery, social development and sustainable growth.
For Maiduguri residents, the new flyover, road and drainage infrastructure will bring improved mobility and connectivity, while the newly commissioned schools will expand opportunities for children and strengthen the state’s education recovery efforts.
