Kano Govt Dismisses Claims of Red Cap Ban, Says No Shift in Kwankwasiyya Tradition

‎The Kano State Government has refuted rumors suggesting that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has abandoned the signature red cap associated with the Kwankwasiyya movement.

‎Speaking on the issue, the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, clarified that no directive was issued asking supporters to stop wearing the movement’s traditional red cap and white attire.

‎The clarification followed the governor’s appearance at a political gathering in Yola, Adamawa State, where he was seen alongside Vice President Kashim Shettima, Mai Mala Buni, and other prominent figures.

‎Yusuf’s outfit at the event had sparked speculation about a possible rift between him and his political mentor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, whose followers are widely known for their red caps and white clothing.

‎Addressing the concerns via Facebook, Dawakin Tofa explained that the Yola event had a specific dress code and should not be interpreted as a political statement.

‎He stated, “There has been no directive to abandon the red cap. The visit to Yola was for a special occasion where attendees wore a designated outfit. Everything has its time.”
