Residents of Takum Local Government Area in Taraba State have raised serious concerns over an alleged unauthorized registration exercise being conducted in some communities under the name of the Federal Government’s “Renewed Hope” initiative.
According to reports from concerned youths in the area, individuals whose identities remain unknown have allegedly been collecting ₦1,000 from residents, including elderly people and young adults, while claiming the payment is a mandatory requirement for registration into a government support programme.
The development has generated anxiety among community members, with many questioning the legitimacy of the exercise and the intentions of those behind it.
Youths Call for Immediate Government Intervention
In a formal protest letter addressed to Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, community youths expressed concern over what they described as a recurring pattern of exploitation targeting vulnerable residents.
The letter, signed by Christopher Tanimu on behalf of the concerned youths, urged the state government to launch a thorough investigation into the alleged activities and identify those responsible.
According to the group, several residents have already paid the requested amount in hopes of benefiting from a government empowerment programme. However, doubts have continued to grow regarding the authenticity of the registration process.
”We are bringing this matter to your attention because we believe you are a listening governor and we trust your administration,” the letter stated.
